Minneapolis. Gen X mom to a preschooler. Government IT employee. She/her.
In the living room listening to my husband read a book to my kid while she belts out “LAST CHRISTMAS I GAVE YOU MY HEART AND THE VERY NEXT DAY YOU GAVE IT AWAY!” at the same time.

JFC. Thought I saw ICE at MLK Park after kid’s tennis. Black SUV, blacked out windows, driver wearing face covering, slowly driving through lot. I blew my whistle. I alerted staff. Nope just some fucking dude going to play tennis dressed as ICE. What the actual fuck are you doing dude?

Solo parenting today and don’t feel comfortable bringing my kid to the big protest. Any separate family friendly protests today? Or somewhere we can volunteer to get food to homebound families? Or even somewhere I can drop some money to help today?

Town Hall Lanes (my husband’s employer) is offering free meals to anyone under 18yo today. No restrictions. Go in, bowl a few games, bug my husband and feed your kids. (And let neighbors who are food insecure know)

Every minute that goes by another mediocre centrist that I normally deride comes out with a legitimately decent response to what’s going on. It really makes the lack of decent responses from so many others even more egregious.

You think
@governorwalz.mn.gov
has any idea of the scale of community mobilization that is happening right now to protect schools/daycares across MSP from ICE? We have organized foot patrols, car patrols, food delivery, and direct transport for vulnerable individuals. We have our own dispatchers.

It’s absolutely the right call and fucking surreal that our public schools have to close because of the threat posed by OUR OWN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. I am beyond livid.

🤬 ICE should NOT be armed! They are not qualified to handle any of these situations. Are they even trained in de-escalation??? They are BARELY trained. Philosophically, so many of them are so angry, misguided, power-drunk and not mentally balanced. This kind of situation was inevitable.

My bowling team could use 1-2 more bowlers. We have mostly men, so prefer women or non-binary folks. Thursday evenings at 8:15 at Town Hall Lanes. You do not need to be good at all, most of my team isn't. LMK if you are interested.

My kid is still not sleeping, 90+ minutes after being put to bed. She’s insisting that she sleep in my bed, with me, until my husband gets home. So I guess it’s bed time. Happy New Year. 🎊

The Museum of Russian Art is extremely close to our house and honestly such a hidden gem! Got the family membership and if we go two more times in the next year, we come out ahead. My 9 year old loves the art scavenger hunt. The current exhibit is about fairy tales - I highly recommend it.

My family went to the Minnesota Museum of American Art today. I’d never been before and it was lovely, lots of Wanda Gág and Native artists pieces. I will definitely be going back to take a closer look without the 5 year old.
