I am here to talk into the void as we stare at each other. Whatâs going on. I am grateful and disgruntled. Wanting to be better at holding conflicting emotions and giving them all the correct amount of attention

I wonder how streaming can be slowed down. Not to "mindfullness" but yeah, slower paced algorithms, platforms that encourage you to think, really absorb what you're taking in, in a good way, slow down, sit a spell.

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

I have a suggestion: I am trying to make all hobbies, passions, etc. into life affirming actions. I think reframing consumption and creation, away from our default frameworks, would be helpful for myself. More attention. More expression of humanity, as opposed to âhopefully I get big off thisâ.

Our two most valuable resources are our time and our attention. Both are finite, and often hard to keep track of since theyâre not a physically tangible thing (thereâs not a stack of âtimeâ sitting in your closet to put your eyes on).

Attention is a precious and finite resource. Following any account on social media is actually entrusting a slice of incredibly scarce time and attention. Scrolling isn't actually free, it costs us. And companies assign a valuation to our attention because it has value. We should value it, too.

Jobs having more than 3 interviews should be a RARE occurrence. If you cannot determine if someone is good fit by the third round..then somebody else need to be in the hiring position.

Makes me sad re-reading this amazing letter from ex-Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox sent to high school seniors in 1994 after they asked him âWhat should Americans learn from Watergate?â 20 years later in â94. His answer is remarkableâunfortunately things didnât work out so well in 2024.

Spinoza's birthday is today (24 Nov 1632) I'm resharing some writings in a thread. If this little finite monad can live some years longer, there will eventually also be a book. Here I summarize correspondence between Willem van Blijenbergh, a grain merchant, and Spinoza on evil. Part 1--

Iâve been trying to read the Myth of Sisyphus and goddamn I just do not mesh well with Camusâs writing. Three attempts and coming away with âwtf did I just readâ is crazy. Iâve never really had this happen with a book before.
