We weren't aware that the PG loan would be treated separately to the UG & at such a high rate of repayment from her salary. She was the first in our family to go to University so everything was such a minefield to navigate. We trusted Martin when he said not to worry.

If I'm correct the loans are held by private equity firms after being sold off by the Tories. I'm not sure if that would be possible but would be a start. The repayment % are still the biggest issue for me. Martin Lewis told parents to treat it as a graduate tax but 15% is extortionate.

Kids can't be expected to pay a higher % in taxes than millionaires their entire working lives. Another solution has to be found as reducing or freezing the interest rate won't solve the issue.

This issue is the % they pay from their wages. My daughter pays 15% of her salary over £20,000, 6% for UG & 9% for PG. Even if they froze what she owes in student loans now she would pay effectively 15% extra tax until she retires. The loans are so huge & the rate of repayment too high.
