Over the past month, I've had several posts mocking me for daring to say that I think transphobia and sexism are bad. And all of them had this framing -- that the only possible reason anyone could be against bigotry was that they wanted to impress other people. Basic decency just baffles them.

An earlier generation used to use "do-gooder" as a term of mockery, so the implication that they preferred to do *bad* and resented anyone who broke ranks was even more obvious.
