AUPresses hosted a ceremony for its annual Stand UP Award. This year, the prize was awarded to Brett Bobley (l.), the founding director of the Office of Digital Humanities within the National Endowment for the Humanities. Presenting the award was AUPresses executive director Peter Berkery (r.).

On this World AIDS Day, I'm thinking back to 2011, when we in NEH-ODH gave Anne Balsamo and her team the first of several awards to develop the AIDS Quilt Touch, which allows the public to search and view the AIDS Quilt. apps.neh.gov/PublicQuery/...

Did lots of cooking: broke down whole turkey; made turkey stock; made turkey gravy from said stock; put turkey into sous vide; made tomato sauce; assembled a lasagna; made mac & cheese; made four pie shells; made a pie; kneaded dough for two loaves of bread. Oh, and did so, so may dishes. 🥱

Great piece, Dan. I can confirm: Over the years, this has indeed been a longstanding problem. I've helped fund numerous projects over the years trying to address handwriting recognition and it is exciting to see what we can do today.

Congrats to Doug Armato on his retirement. He was a real leader in open access publishing. Back when I worked at NEH, I was proud to be able to award him and his press numerous awards for OA scholarship: apps.neh.gov/PublicQuery/...

Doug Armato, who has helmed the 100-year-old press for 27 years, is retiring at the end of December. His tenure saw the expansion of the press’s list and the development of strong Indigenous studies, trade, and regional publishing programs.
