I'm going to update this - it clearly is deniable, as many people who seem completely in good faith are denying it. So, here's a more nuanced thread, from someone who runs moderation on a news site, about what I think happened with moderation and the trans community on Bluesky. 🧵

In case people are wondering what I think the "solution" is, I would say that people need to be willing to curate their own experience with social media. Mastodon has a high engagement rate if you create that space for yourself. But we're terrified of our posts not reaching Everyone On The Internet.

Many get stuck on having to pick a server when they decide to check out Mastodon, or the wider fediverse. And it makes sense! If you look at joinmastodon.org/servers, there is no meaningful way to distinguish the options, beyond narrowing things down by topic and location. Choice paralysis!
