yea i am very much of the belief that public presence social media is a dying breed. finding ways to build small communities that have built in trust mechanics - regardless of how strong or loose those mechanics are - is where things are going. a big part of the rise of group chats imo

Here's a real test of whether the Atmosphere has a future as an independent network.

The same reason why Bluesky is vulnerable to outages is the same reason why Bluesky provides *reach* whereas Mastodon is vulnerable to valid criticism because its architecture does not provide the same *reach* but it is invincible to network outages for that reason. It’s a paradox.

TBH I also don't see dev verification as central to, or even a job for the verification program at Bluesky. When they decided that they wanted a verification program, my focus was entirely on authentic, credible, and notable accounts. Devs are often smaller pseudonymous accounts on atproto.

It's true, and I'd say most of us on Mastodon hate this too. I'd love to see the overall fediverse get more diverse. I think eventually this small minority will just have to give up, if we can drown them out!

It is true that developers have received pushback from parts of the fediverse when trying to make what they saw as useful tools. At the same time, there is a big variety of tools many actively use.

There are some really great options for people who split their time between the fediverse (mostly Mastodon) and the Atmosphere (mostly Bluesky): - surf.social - openvibe.social - usetapestry.com (iOS only) And there is also brid.gy so that you only need one account!

Pretty interesting read, even if you're not a member of the Blacksky community, as the questions/implications apply to all of the Atmosphere and other communities will have to answer them sooner or later.

On types of AI and uses: Since Black ppl tend to be the main victims of environmental racism, I believe the user base is most concerned with curtailing it as much as possible. If the tools are a blend of LLM/data center & 80’s statistics, where you have to use both or nothing…
