✏️ 🇨🇺 On this day in 1961, Cuba declared itself free of illiteracy, following the 'Year of Education' when more than 200,000 Cubans volunteered in literacy brigades. Over 700,000 Cubans learned to read and write and Cuba's literacy rate rose to 96%, one of the highest in the world.

✊ 🇨🇺 Eleven years ago today, the remaining three imprisoned members of the Miami Five were finally freed after spending 16 years unjustly behind bars in the US. Their release, a huge victory for the Cuban people, followed years of tireless campaigning and solidarity work.
