Eldest son had a school trip to Alton Towers today, where he has learned that Alton Towers is mostly about queuing for an hour and then finding the ride you were waiting for gets temporarily closed before you managed to get on it. And repeat. I guess it was a school day after all.

FIFA wants the an event on the scale of the Olympics. I'm fully expecting the next story to be that the WC is going to have multiple disciplines: 5 a side, street football, futsal... I'm a little surprised they haven't tried it already.

Sick of English journalists' desperation for Bellingham to get sent off or have a bust up with Tuchel so they'll have their fall guy. We've got one of the top five midfielders in the world, try to enjoy it.

If AI is so good, why can't Gemini check what's on Radio 5 before it starts playing and if it finds tennis, rugby, F1 or [shudder] golf then it tells me it's going to play music instead?

Looking forward to it being Keir Starmer's fault tomorrow morning that the local Facebook group parents have kept their kids up all night for a 1am kick off, which gets weather delayed to 2.30am.

Installed windows on an old laptop today to make some awkward old software work. It just alerted me 'live' the Senegal scored 25 minutes ago so it's nice to know things haven't changed with Microsoft.

Hoping Japan go through tonight because their speed and aggressiveness after they win the ball is an absolute delight, instantly looking to turn and attack quickly. I want it to be the next blueprint for successful football because it's really good fun.

There's a world cup on so where's my afternoon game between a couple of mid-30s ranked sides to watch drowsily in the sun with a beer while I wait for England? Bloody FIFA. Ridiculous place to hold a football tournament.

BBC's world cup coverage is weirdly sterile. Has the feel of trying to make the best of an uninspiring FA Cup 4th round tie. Amazed to be saying it but ITV much better so far (apart from that weird blackboard thing obvs.)

I'm building in PowerBI because a client uses it and OMFG it's bad. Really, truly, horrifically bad. I'd hoped for at least some improvements in the four years since I last tried it but it's still a clunky, horrible, slow, buggy mess.

There's a fun evolution in football coming as elite teams struggle against well-drilled low blocks. Current answer is plug away & hope the oppo slips once in 90 mins. I reckon the future is chaos agents. Deliberately add chaos & cope better with it than the other team. It's why Guardiola liked Doku.

There is no UK law against photographing and filming people in public places but I suspect we're going to need one soon. If it's not very carefully worded then it's going to do all sorts of collateral damage to the art of street photography.
