for decades as a gamer I don't think I ever saw a placeholder texture in a live game and suddenly in the space of two years there are a dozen cases of OH THAT AI WAS JUST MEANT TO BE A PLACEHOLDER

AI boosters and fence-sitters think viscerally negative reactions to AI are "irrational" but mass deployment of LLMs is actively destroying everything I care about (the open internet, the planet, creative industries, art, my ability to buy RAM). Total rejection is the most logical response.

Hot take (maybe?): if you want your game to be translated with the highest quality possible, you don't need to speak the language, but still have to be directly involved in the process in some capacity. You can't just offload the text to an agency and expect not to have to think about it anymore.
