I had read about the Saltair years ago while on a wikipedia rabbit hole. But last year when I saw the 1962 film Carnival of Souls I realized that it was the same building (sort of). I love when a video is years in the making!

Head to a protest today. I can almost promise you will feel less hopeless. That's exactly what they don't want. There are more of us than there are of them.

If you're missing HBO's The Gilded Age you can relive it from the eyes of the ever critical interior decorator, Edith Wharton. Thank you to

Last year YouTube introduced A/B tests for thumbnails and I don't know if I like them. I've used them consistently since then, but I don't love that everyone experiences the video a little differently. So here are all the thumbnails and if YT makes a choice you can be like... ugh they are so wrong.

The New Yorker put out an article in May on 'notable New Yorkers' living rooms. Then I compiled all the photos into a spreadsheet so I could say "89% of 'notable New Yorkers' have white walls."

My podcast, Someone Lived Here, had its annual episode come out today! It takes you inside the home of writer Sarah Orne Jewett. She wrote beautifully about Maine and was the inspiration for writers like Willa Cather.

While looking for details on the photography studio of these photos I found the blog, Cabinet Card Curiosities. Sent him an email to let him know about these photos and they both have been added to the fantastic collection he has created online!

I only know of one photo of Harriet Jacobs. It was taken at Gilbert Studios in Philadelphia in 1894. I was curious about the studio and ended up finding this photo of Helen Keller and actor, Joseph Jefferson, sitting on an identical chair in 1902.

Latest video combines: Blue Prince, floor plan books from the 1840s, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, and the story of Harriet Jacobs. Had such a good time making this one!

Went on Pinterest for a screenshot in an upcoming video and am shocked by all the AI. I heard it was bad, but I didn’t realize it was so so unusable.

I have been a lifelong stamp enthusiast and USPS lover. Last month I made a 30 minute video on the history of the postal service in the United States to try and figure out why it’s in such danger now. Here is what I learned 1/17

I went through my entire stamp collection on my Patreon! It was fun, but a good reminder that I need to use more of my stamps.

The super cute Appalachian Trail stamps came out last week. There is a photo for each of the 14 states the AT passes through from Maine and Georgia. They are forever stamps and come in a sheet of 15.

The new Global stamp was drawn by a 10 year old. If still alive she would be 241 years old. It was a sketch in the geography book of Lucia Wadsworth.

I got a press release from USPS about two new stamps, Goodnight Moon and Spongebob. Out sometime in 2025, no release dates yet. I will be putting that little bowl of mush on every piece of mail.
