Bard never really cared much for celebrating their birthday, but I usually made them do it anyway. The summer birthday meant they grew up with friends being away, or on a trip themselves. I know many people experience seeing departed loved ones when they are near death -- Bard had long conversations with their father. It is strange to realize, decades into a life that includes a variety of spiritual practices focused on visualization, that I have very strong aphantasia. I always thought "seeing something in your mind" was a metaphor.

Today is Bard's birthday. They would have been 61. I lit a candle, and put on some music that they and I used to listen to together, early in our relationship, and then I transferred their ashes to the beautiful urn Carolann Vassallo made for them. Blessed be.
