Just imagine … the review of England’s national curriculum puts children’s and young people’s agency at the heart of the curriculum. You don’t think this is possible? Go and have a look at Ireland that has always out performed England.

I think everyone who works in a primary school accepts that the curriculum is overloaded. We simply can't squeeze in everything that we're supposed to. However, there are two things that we must ensure take place each day: class storytime and independent reading. They're far too important to drop.

"All schools should be given more freedom over the curriculum" says Dominic Wyse (

When a measure becomes a target it ceases to be a good measure. The PM's inclusion of
#earlyyears
in today's milestones is welcome, but the fact is the pressure to increase EYFS profile results will fall on schools, who do the assessment. And teacher asst is more sensitive to outside pressures.

Last week I tried out a long narrative poem on grandson 2 (nearly 3)- a possible picture book with no pictures yet. He listened intently. Hooray! 'Did you like that?' 'No'. 'Do you want it again?' 'No.' Dejection! Today... 'Can I have that poem again?' And then again and again and again! Elation!
