21% of teachers persist with synthetic phonics, even when it doesn't work for their pupils, finds Prof Dominic Wyse @hhcp-ucl.bsky.social @ioe.bsky.social. More flexible approaches based on motivation for reading and writing are needed to help improve England’s reading standards.
