The latest review into maternity services is a hard read. I pushed Govt to roll out all 5 National Bereavement Care Pathweays including for miscarriage and to ensure that suitable bereavement rooms are available in all hospitals.

People from deprived areas have a 25% higher risk of fractures, spend longer in hospital recovering, and die in greater numbers after hip fractures. The roll out of Fracture Liaison Services is really important to tackle health inequalities, so I pushed the Govt to speed up the roll out.

Yesterday I highlighted that patients in England are struggling to access publicly funded IVF with only 2/42 ICBs complying with NICE fertility guidance. I pushed the Government to consider centralising commissioning. Having a chance to have a baby should not be based on your postcode.

I have raised with Govt the issue of uncontrolled high blood pressure which remains one of the leading drivers of stroke, heart attacks and kidney failure. Preventative work is needed especially with communities where it is most prevalent.

Dementia is projected to reach 1.4 million people by 2040 and yet Alzheimer’s Research UK reports that up to 45% of dementia cases globally could be prevented or delayed. Today I pushed the Government for a national dementia awareness campaign to support risk reduction and healthier ageing.

With the number of patients waiting over a year for community health services going up by a staggering 32% since last year, I challenged the Government to take action to ensure patients receive timely community health services. Too often local budgets get diverted to deal with acute demand.

Today I asked Government when passengers in the North West will receive the Northern train service they rightly expect on Sundays, by resolving the ongoing staffing dispute which does not include Sundays in rotas. Services have been halved in frequency for too long.

With new strategic authorities being established I encouraged Government today to ensure clear guidance around effective working with resilience forums and key partners to ensure operational readiness for major incidents.

Delighted to work with the Transport Minister Peter Hendy to secure amendments to the Devolution Bill last night which will ensure greater safety for taxi and private hire passengers. Enforcement officers will be able to take action no matter where the licence has been issued.

Great to get a commitment that the Government is doing a study looking at greater access to London Gateway, Britain’s 2nd largest container port. Electrification of 3 miles of track could boost rail freight.
