Singal wants people to see trans advocates as the powerful actors in this story when the actual power dynamics run overwhelmingly in the other direction. That's a classic misdirection in service of the backlash it pretends to merely describe.

By this logic, Black civil rights leaders who sought media attention for civil rights issues forfeited the right to object to hostile coverage such as the Willie Horton ad. Seeking visibility is not consent to distortion and manufactured propaganda.

Then there's "you wanted attention so you can't complain" argument. Because the Biden White House held trans visibility events, advocates can't object to the hostile weaponization of trans people's existence. Think about what that actually means.
