Students, if you’re thinking about dropping a note to that teacher or professor about what their class/project/mentorship has meant to you, but you worry it will be cringe or cheesy, let me just tell you they will coast on the fuzzy feelings prompted by that note for months, if not years

I always assigned my freshman comp students a "careers" research paper (which met the dept. reqs.). They had to examine multiple sources, interview someone in their chosen field (which sometimes led to internships/connections), and learn what the job actually involves. Most loved the assignment. 1)

We would be a lot better off as a country at the moment if more of our institutions had said, "Fuck you, make me" over the past year and a half
