I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

Artists whose main income is personal commissions: how has your work income been the past couple years? Way down since AI? Pretty much the same? Steadily gaining? Obviously there are some customers who will gladly just make free AI slop, but are there still enough who want a real artist?

Donate to mutual funds. Take a first aid course. Offer to help others with yard work or errands. Check in on your friends, family & vulnerable community members. Contact your senator. Help out at a food bank. Do not give up. The road is long & small positive actions ripple outward.

Libraries are also a crucial third space. It's important to get to know your local library and what they have to offer your community.

As you cancel streaming services, here is a casual reminder that only 16% of Americans read for pleasure anymore, and your local library has hundreds or thousands of books you haven't read. They would love to see you stop by and renew your library card.
