There is no question that ICE’s actions are harming children. A new report from Psychiatric News warns that immigration enforcement in the U.S. is a public health emergency for millions of children.

The girl’s school principal said, “her unexpected removal… will likely have a deep emotional impact on her classmates and our entire school community. She belongs with her family and her classmates, where she can continue learning and growing.”

Local officials said, “there is no greater depravity than separating a family and deporting a 6 year-old child two weeks before she is supposed to start school. It is a shameful stain on our country's history and conscience.”

We are outraged by the news that a 6-year-old girl and her mother were abducted at a routine immigration check-in in New York, forced into detention, and deported—separating them from the rest of their family in one horrifying moment.
