Does anyone know of examples of Roman (or generally ancient Mediterranean) slotted spoons? Surely they existed, but I’m having trouble finding an example

just imagine working at microsofft and thinking “let’s spend billions, steal a load of intellectual property, and destroy the planet to make an interface to write bad essays” rather than “let’s update MS Word so users can comment on footnotes”

It’s not a big step from “we are withholding money for lifesaving research and treatment in order to protect Jews/punish those who threaten Jews” to “angry at the deaths caused as a result? It’s the Jews’ fault.”

Making a passing reference to Ken dolls in my dissertation requires rewatching all of Barbie (2023), right?

So nice to get to attend CAPN/CACW at UBC! I especially enjoyed the staged reading of Thomas Heywood’s The Golden Age which is a truly wild and extremely ace and gay play!

Always fascinated by minor Roman deities- there was one called Viriplaca who apparently offered marriage counseling at her shrine on the Palatine

Now is when Canada should invest heavily in its university system. Not just STEM. We could be a leader in the Social Sciences and Humanities and become a robust research global leader.

Asexuality studies people, has anyone traced the first use of “ace”? It seems to appear as already pretty well understood around 2008/2009 but it’s not clear to me where it first appeared and was popularized or the reasons people had for it at the time.

Since I have a number of new followers that honestly makes me feel weird I thought I’d introduce myself! I’m a PhD candidate at the University of Washington working on asexuality in Latin poetry. In my spare time I do baroque dance and some sewing and knitting

I feel certain that in the last 2 years I’ve read something pushing back on the idea that Augustan art/literature is “propaganda” on the grounds that Augustus wasn’t centrally dictating the programme. Can anyone think what that might be? Now I can’t find it again! Especially interested in art!

Does anyone have a good system for absences and getting students caught up? I am sick, so many of my students are sick, and with Latin five days a week even a very brief illness puts them behind so fast. Also any suggestions for lots of students missing quizzes?
