About twenty years ago when I was unwell and housebound mostly this book was recommended to me by online forum posters and I read it and it is a brilliant book.

This is going to be the 4th year in a row that I bring my girl guides camping and the weather goes from nice to rain right before it. I’m taking it personally at this point.

The amount of times I got called a control freak for not letting Dora off leash on walks & for making sure I could always spot her if off leash in an appropriate place. She’s my dog & she’s excitable/nervy. If I’m not in charge/control then who is? No chaos on my walk thanks!

Listen I’m not putting a branch (from a bush in the garden)in the doorway the night before May Day to deter any fairy folk to just set out the welcome mat with a leprechaun trap in March. This is where I jump in waving a copy of SISTER WAKE by Irish author Dave Rudden. It’s fantasy, v Irish coded with nods to Irish myth and our history (ie the brits and being colonised). In it the Old Gods return & they’re fuckin’ massive!

A suggested post for me on IG highlighted an upcoming book by James Patterson and Mr Beast. Be a cold day in Hell before I seek that out, i can tell you. Pure hustling grift by publishers at this point. Hard to respect them when they don’t respect themselves.

What Seanan encountered was not just BAD FORM as a human being but also extremely unprofessional and stupid. And potentially harmful. Some guy off sowing just how useless he is. I’ve moderated & organised events in my volunteer role. Never would I sanction or allow this.

Once I got my degree in English & decided not to do a masters in it I forgot most of what I learned about genre & such. Even now when discourse happens on tenses, I have to remind myself which is which. I just use them. I don’t label them. If it works for a story, I use it. Or I read it.

I overheard 2 young women in a bookshop talking about how our local library didn’t have the titles in the fantasy section we were in & I turned & apologised for being a rando in a shop & told them all about how Irish libraries are linked & you can get a book from Dublin to pick up in Galway…

Living in Galway where you can walk easily enough to most places unless it’s raining &/or you’re carrying big bags of groceries, it was mind blowing to go to my cousins neighbourhood in Braintree & see how pedestrian unfriendly it was. Actually the whole place isn’t good for walking.

Opinion columns are such a waste of printed space. I don’t care what these people think & some read like 1st drafts of a 6th class essay. If they wrote about niche interests or hobbies or something that’s more than just “I hate this” or “anyone who hates mass doesn’t deserve to vote”.

Same. I love the book & am compelled to watch dramatisations. I saw this one & enjoyed it immensely

+1 to this. Distilling the story down to those tropes does it a disservice & makes it seem like you’re checking boxes instead of story telling. I don’t care if it makes something easier to sell/be visible. There’s too much of it.

Watched the 1st 3 episodes of Season 2 Paradise. Sterling K Brown is stellar as always. I wasn’t sure if I was in the frame of mind for a post apocalyptic tale right now but the way the story beats are being dropped & linking in to each other already ? I’m reeled back in! Not to leap into others politics when god knows there’s enough malarkey but a code of conduct only works when you’re dealing with people who will respect it & have a sense of honour & decency to begin with. These guys ain’t that. You need to make them unemployed & unemployable.
