annoyed people are finally believing Epstein died by suicide bc of this note. it's so common for child abusers facing real consequences to attempt or complete suicide. but I guess people wanted to use a rapist's suicide to seem cool despite having zero knowledge of rapists and their behavior

Thinking lots about baking lately. Wittgenstein apparently once wrote that âRaisins may be the best part of a cake; but a bag of raisins is not better than a cake.â
@nigelwarburton.bsky.social
calls this Wittgenstein's 'critique of pure raisin', which rather made my day.

Some Dems have told themselves only ~1% of the population is trans so they can dip their toe in the anti-trans filth and come out clean. I don't have any trans family membersâbut it still makes me irate. I see it as a huge red flag, a sign you are unprincipled and untrustworthy. And I'm not alone.

Dimensionality reduction may be the wrong approach to understanding neural representations. Our new paper shows that across human visual cortex, dimensionality is unbounded and scales with dataset sizeâwe show this across nearly four orders of magnitude.

I wanted dinner recommendations so I scraped 13,000+ London restaurants and accidentally discovered Google Maps is running a shadow economy. Anyway here's a dashboard and a political economy thesis:

How Google Maps quietly allocates survival across Londonâs restaurants - and how I built a dashboard to see through it
I wanted a dinner recommendation and got a research agenda instead. Using 13000+ restaurants, I rebuild its ratings with machine learning and map how algorithmic visibility actually distributes power.

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

@neurograce.bsky.social

Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
