Has anyone tried using mesoscope.scripps.edu/beta/index.h... and CellPAINT2D to try to illustrate/simulate phase separation? You can make multivalent interactions, but they don't unbind, at least that I can figure out.

I haven't posted there in almost a year, but today it's official.

Deep learning has revolutionized image analysis and our ability to find objects in images at scales that would have been impossible before. But it's still funny to me that this requires a significant amount of time coloring on images to make training data.

Is anyone else having a hard time getting CellASIC plates from Millipore? I ordered some bacterial plates back in August and I just got word that they've been backordered again until March 2025. 😲

Let's talk about hellbenders, the largest salamanders in North America. First off, they're pretty big: 1.5 to 2.5 kg (3.3 to 5.5 lb). Early colonists saw their undulating skin and wide mouths & thought of demons, but I prefer their other names: Snot otter Lasagna lizard Allegheny alligator

Let's talk about the Shmoo, and how it's become part of multiple fields of science & medicine as well as being a global cultural phenomenon. It was a creature invented in 1948 by cartoonist Al Capp for his Li'l Abner comic strip. They lived in the "Valley of the Shmoon".

Question for microscopy folks. When you take the ratio of two images, the result is obviously noisy, where the background is often high. How do you go about displaying that result? I've decided on a couple ways to deal with it but interested in what others do. 🧪
