Ended up buying and returning a 2015 Mac Pro because, despite its impressive internals, it’s literally incapable of doing anything I needed it to. Thunderbolt 2 and no upgrade-ability seriously limited that machine. And its high idle power draw makes it too costly to be worth keeping on.

I do think it would be really cool to toss together a maxed-out trash can Mac Pro, throw Debian on it, and daily drive that.

I’m historically an Apple guy, so I only have two Microsoft products in my house— Win11 on a VM for gaming, and Win11 on my HTPC for the same. I was already working on phasing that OS out over quality and privacy concerns, but after the People Make Games video, I consider it my moral imperative.

Follow up: I’m now very comfortable with the reality that Linux/GNU will be my primary OS from here on out. Already chosen my next laptop.

After four days of grappling day and night with setting up a Fedora VM for gaming, I finally won. Spoofing a nonstandard display resolution and frame rate is a far tougher job than I would have thought on Linux. Thank you, Phiality, for making it easy with Linux-CRU github.com/PhialsBaseme...

So far, the biggest psychological hurdle for me in terms of daily driving Linux is that it feels incredibly fragile. I feel like I’m one unwitting mistake from losing my install and all my data.

After one day of use, I’ve noticed significant breakage and usability issues across iOS, macOS, and iPadOS 26. Disappointing, but not surprising given the state of Apple recently.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more baffled I am by the iPhone 17 lineup. The 17 Pro is basically just a spec bump. The new external design seems so un-Apple. I get they’re going for maximum thermal efficiency, but it looks like a pickup truck. Liquid Glass is going to look awful on it.
