Because neurodivergent people are so literal and honest, we get mislabeled as rude, sassy, or smart-mouthed when we’re actually just being exact.

It is important for us to reduce the symptoms of autistic trauma, but if we try to do that in a space where connection and acceptance is systematically denied from us, we will have an intensely painful experience of rejection.

You know you’re a great writer &/or communicator when people accuse you of using AI. Or, you might be autistic — as we speak algorithmically, are rigid perfectionists when it comes to grammar/syntax & express in a painfully exacting way due to a lifetime of being misunderstood.

Autistic Social Skills: Understanding Organic Autistic Experiences of Connection and Friendship
We know from a variety of research that Autistic individuals seek social connection, and often connect well with other Autistic people. If Autistic people so regularly develop rapport with other Autistic people, this suggests that Autistic people have Autistic social skills. But what does organic Autistic connection and socialising look like? This blog outlines some examples of how Autistic people demonstrate our own ‘brand’ of social skills.

Autistic people don't need to have "special gifts" or "superpowers" to have value. Autistic people shouldn't have to have some unique, exceptional talent to trade in exchange for you tolerating someone being different from you.

Autistic people are often taught to "be more flexible" or "go with the flow" but guess what? Abusers love that. They rely on us doubting ourselves and not speaking up. Your boundaries aren’t a problem. You’re allowed to say no ♾️

It’s me. I’m one of the people in her timeline continually making the mistake of thinking, “if I just patiently explain the facts in a clear way, then people will understand and do better…” Oh, sweet (AuDHD) inner self, remember to use self-care to brace yourself for the repetitive disappointment.

Walking that autistic tightrope trying to communicate with medical providers about symptoms. Say too much, docs think you're lying or overreacting, say too little, docs think you're fine. Have to give just the right amount of breadcrumbs for them to believe you and want to help solve the problem.

Great point from an autistic friend. I've noticed a general tendency toward assuming that marginalized identities of various sorts automatically make someone a good person: this is unfortunately not the case. It's still about choices, and sometimes being marginalized makes antisocial choices easy.

Something I’ve come to understand as an Autistic person lately? We take people at their word. We give people the benefit of the doubt. We expect words to match actions. And when people keep showing us who they are? When actions and words don’t match? Believe the actions. Believe the patterns

Reading a book on autism and was kind of heartbroken to read about how many women are diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder when they're actually autistic, because women aren't often diagnosed w/autism since common traits (being tidy, quiet, etc.) are seen as merely "feminine."

I still feel the reason we have an “autism epidemic” is observer bias, that modern life doesn’t have many places where you aren’t constantly around people, and low level noise of light, for hours, until whatever neurodivergent you are becomes very obvious.
