Been reading Yazeba's and I have something to say. It is ridiculous (ridiculous!) to rank scones as high-diff. If anything pancakes are harder since (as @beckyannison.bsky.social says) you have to turn them. And jumping from scones to croissants is INSANE. My alt baking diff table is PWYW on itch

So true, and would have been in my post if it weren't for the wordcount limit. Proper difficulty analysis * How time-sensitive is it (fried things burn if you don't watch them) * How difficult is the technique (scones are basically just rubbing flour into butter) etc etc

Particularly enjoyed The King Is Dead. It's only the second time I've played a Firebrands-inspired system and I like the way it breaks down situations into a menu of beats and then lightly mechanises them. It inspired us to make some cool choices in play.

Just ran into @newmadras.bsky.social referenced in a book about the British Empire. It's like seeing your teacher in the supermarket, or something. I mean I knew theoretically that Thomas wrote about not-game stuff, but disorienting (in a cool way) to randomly bump into his work.

Played The King Is Dead, an accidental Christmas gift, today. It is a simple, strategic game that I have definitely not yet mastered or even fully understood. Very hard to predict the consequences of ones own actions! I'm looking forward to playing more.

Right, I'm reading the Lost Mine of Phandelver (starter set) now. Some good simple GM advice in here, even if it is still very "you the DM are the fount of everything and have ultimate authority". I know, that's how D&D works - but you can actually run it in a less autocratic way.
