“Maine Characters” by Hannah Orenstein is the perfect book as summer winds down. This one is definitely in my top two favorites of Hannah’s books, though I love them all. She is the first adult author I read outside of schoolwork, so she’ll always be an auto-buy author to me. Highly recommend!

Well “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is over. I have many childhood memories of reading the book series over and over again. The show 100% lives up the books, and I’ve loved watching for the past three years. (Though Jenny Han’s end note really hints at a spin-off, so I’m hoping it’s true.)

In honor of the final episode of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” dropping tomorrow, I’m bringing back this picture circa BookCon June 2018. It was an honor meeting Jenny Han, one of my favorite YA romance authors. Seeing her books come to life on screen and get spin-offs has been so cool!

If you count Friday, I read five books this long weekend. It feels good to catch up on my Libby holds and read some great books. I need more time to just sit and read my TBR.

I was going to watch a new show until I learned it was cancelled with a cliffhanger. After what happened with JATP, S&B, and so many others that broke my heart, is it worth it? But then if you don’t watch shows, they won’t get renewed because of low viewership. What a vicious cycle.

I’ve seen several videos of football players and/or coaches on the field during the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders’ “Thunderstruck” performance. One even kicked a football over them. It’s five minutes—why can’t the players can’t give these dancers the full field? Is it just stupidity or misogyny?

I just saw a TikTok that made me realize One Direction’s first album, “Up All Night,” came out in November 2011, about six months after “We’ll Always Have Summer” by Jenny Han in April 2011. Two of my biggest childhood memories and continued obsessions are basically the same age. I feel kinda old 😭

People on social media are so bad about spoilers. I even seek spoilers out on some occasions, but most videos or tweets don’t even have warnings. I understand that a book that’s been out for years shouldn’t need a heads up, but a new adaption often changes things.

One thing I appreciate is when an author makes purposeful changes to their TV/film adaption. Rick Riordan explained this in a new EW article, and so did Jenny Han to People in 2022. They both know this is a different time, so they can tell the story in a way they envision it now and keep the heart.

My all-time favorite boy band turns 15 today. They haven’t been together in 10 years, but I remember blasting the “Up All Night” album when it released. On this first anniversary without him, I hope Liam is at peace, and I hope Harry, Louis, Niall, and Zayn are living their lives how they want.

I just had a conversation with a friend about how I don’t mind and sometimes even enjoy cleaning and organizing, especially when I can make it fun. Plus, all the cleaning, declutterring, and organizing videos on TikTok are so soothing and helpful. The reward of a clean space is priceless.

There's no way this is just about "finances," given that they had plenty of finances to bribe Trump. A shame. Colbert is so funny and kind and generous, especially to writers.

Deja Foxx is an activist and politician who also happens to be influencer. People don’t just like her TikTok—they like her policies to change things for the better. Media also criticize AOC and Mamdani for social media use. TikTok is a place to connect, but it doesn’t define Foxx or the others.

I didn’t realize it was mid-July already. Now I have to binge re-watch seasons 1 and 2 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” before season 3 drops on Wednesday. Using this thread to hold me accountable: 1 episode watched before work today.

I dreamed about my old dance club in college last night, so I watched a ton of my old dance videos. It’s sad to realize I might not ever be able to move like that again. Stupid knees 🥺

There’s nothing more comforting than rewatching Haikyuu again, especially when I get to the training camp arc.

Have to give a shout out to Tashie Bhuiyan, who is one of my favorite YA romance authors. It’s impossible to pick which book is my favorite (they’re all absolutely amazing), but I finally was able to read “I’ll Pretend You’re Mine,” and that one definitely hits all the feels.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

I can’t put into words how I feel now that this bill has passed. Millions of dollars taken from the people to fund hatred and put more money in the pockets of the billionaires that buy our politicians. I don’t know how this country will, if it even can, recover.

This decision is gutting and enraging. It's an attack on all queer/trans *individuals*--not just books. This decision is an attack on public schools and an entire group of human beings. It's an attack on identity. It is erasure. Books bans are anathema to democracy & the start to much much worse.
