Ayad Mansoor Sakat gave his life in service to the United States. Today, Michigan mourns with those who loved him, and America honors a life defined by courage and duty. Our country is better and safer because of his sacrifice.

On yet another week where gun violence has claimed far too many lives, a gun advocacy group and Michigan Republicans are trying to repeal my commonsense Red Flag Law, a law that is **saving** lives. Not on my watch.

With no notice or process, Michigan House Republicans slashed programs for moms and babies, kids with cancer, schools, first responders, and more. 5 Republicans joined Senate Democrats to undo those cuts. And Senate Democrats are doing everything we can to ensure the funds are restored.

We make things. We build things. We imagine things that have never been built before, then we go out there, we work our asses off. And we get it done. 

That’s my story. And that’s the story of Michigan.  In 2026, we have a chance to build this country’s future. Together.

I’m horrified to wake up to news of the antisemitic slaughter at Australia’s Bondi Beach. As my own family - along with the entire Michigan Jewish community - prepares for the first night of Hanukkah, we must redouble our efforts to fight antisemitism and not let hate win.
