If I were editing a college president’s guest essay about the importance of colleges hosting “difficult speakers,” I would ask her to clarify how her argument squares with her history of expelling students for protesting, and why speakers should be treated better than her own students.

Anyone doing an ethnography of high school / college / elite debate team culture? We might need a book on that.

So much of my work week feels like it's spent scheduling meetings, finding times when everyone can meet, then starting all over when someone can't meet.

I've spent roughly equal time in rural MN and south mpls. Men terrorize rural communities with guns (and explosives) as well. From domestic violence to the guy down the road who does assault rifle target practice late into the night when he's challenged.

Overall, taking the Borealis to Chicago was great. We arrived about 50 mins late, and that and the fact that my car didn't have super good AC, were the only downsides. Departing from Union Depot in St. Paul vs. MSP airport is incomparable... zero stress, few crowds.

Off to Union Depot in St. Paul to take the train to Chicago like some 1950s guy or a European. I admit I was an obseessive Amtrak nerd as a kid, so I am of course excited.
