This has been a really rough few days. I recently learned of a controversy around our book THE PRINCESS IN BLACK AND THE PRINCE IN PINK. Some were outraged that Deseret Book carried it (a chain of bookstores in the west). Deseret Book appears to have complied to their demands and removed it. 1/

Also proud because they analyzed book covers to determine which were “real” and which were AI generated. And discussed how books and book covers should have real authors and illustrators. #Kidlit #TLsky #SchoolLibrarians #skybrarians The kids are all right.

I strongly recommend everyone do research sometimes 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘶𝘯. Look something up on Wikipedia. Go to the little citation. Follow it. Read the article it's referencing. Follow links to the original interview. Read the paper written by the interviewee It genuinely makes you appreciate journalism

I have read many of these books and now feel like I want to add those I haven’t read yet just so I can. I haven’t done a book palette but this one is lovely and also a pretty good sampling of my taste.

NYT Connections today - aaargh!

Tell me you’ve never bought groceries for a family of four without telling me you don’t have any idea how much things cost. He does know that people eat the groceries they buy?

My mom and I read all the Tony Hillerman books and loved them. Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn. I wish she was still here to watch Dark Winds. The book is always better but they do a great job on this series.

I got my Scholastic Book Fair delivered today. We open on Monday. I got 3 registers and no cash drawers. When I contacted them I was told that happens often and they need other fairs returned first. I am now trying to brainstorm how to run Book Fair without the cash drawers. #SchoolLibrarians

We had a district school librarian meeting on Friday and we talked about how we were teaching AI. It was interesting the variety of approaches - From not at all, to using it for creative artistic purposes, to teaching how to use it for editing and improving work . I focus on recognizing it 🧵

My #ADBook I loved this week is Hemlock&Silver by T. Kingfisher. A Snow White twisted retelling that is told from the perspective of a poison and cure obsessed healer that the king recruits to cure Snow. 📚💙 #FantasyBook I have loved every book from this author.

I was asking my students where to put this book and they said Historical Fiction because Covid is historical now. I asked another class they were unanimous it should be historical because of Covid. They said everyone after them that reads it won’t remember Covid times and remote school.

Kindergarten classes this year are brutal - we have the normal beginning of the year runny nose/cough running through every class, but at the same time we have lice and hand foot and mouth disease.🦠 The custodians and kindy teachers are exhausted. I feel like I need to disinfect the library.🤢🤞
