Very interesting piece on genAI used for cheating on assignments. I have the feeling students in my current class largely avoid it this year. My in-person spontaneous poster sessions, where they need creativity and pitching skills, seem to work well. No cheating with a marker and a sheet.

Okay. It is pretty obvious that I am not a fan of genAI. I am generally unimpressed by it, and more than a useful tool, to me it's a potential rabbit hole I don't need to spend time in. But the absolute worst use is in real estate, where most houses are now genAI images. 1/2

All of this rubbish looks exactly the same. I would much rather have my four year old daughter create a flyer for any purpose that requires a flyer than use this mess.

I bought myself a gift of sorts. I have been looking for a book on academic leadership and management for some time. Recently I found out that DHV has exactly that. Great. The only downside is that it's in German. It reduces my reading pace by 90%. So I will be reading this book until I retire.

Today, some of my students working on landscape planning ecology projects showed me an AI-visualized *thing* based on a bird's life cycle. They showed me the prompt, which was reasonable enough. The output was full of spelling errors, non-existing symbols, and one bird nest had a frog in it. WTF?

My office was 32C today. An open window made it warmer, a closed window made it stale and more humid. These conditions really make it tough to focus. This entire country was not built for temperatures like these, and it is also not adapting. Newer public buildings are hardly any better.
