A pretty cool app to study (US) bird voices. Having the sonograms and sounds helps. Not having North American birds around me does not. Nevertheless I like it when people make cool things!

This is a pretty good start if you're looking for all the legitimate reasons not to use genAI. IMO it's mostly bloody awful. My main reason is that I think there's value and growth in 'the grind,' and, yes, that includes the stupid things. Save this one for later and don't say nobody warned you.

Tuesday, we heard a very nice update on Laura Windorfer's work. She is modeling plant communities on variable building envelopes, in order to provide architects opportunities to select designs that are optimized for human- and biodiversity-oriented key performance indicators. Lovely results, Laura!

Last week, Marlene Graf shared a story on how she used insect metabarcoding approaches to investigate the effects of mixing Douglas fir with native tree species on native insect communities. This story is part of her PhD in which she investigates broader biodiversity impacts of admixture.

Paper 15: Brett Seymoure et al take us to the Chihuahuan desert to test impacts of ALAN shielding types and their resulting impacts on insects. Paper 14: A very nice study by Gabriel Charvalakis et al. that investigates the temporal variation in attraction to light of different colors. Went out shortly this afternoon, but somehow neither birds, nor camera, wanted to cooperate. Photographed some species that I had not shot before. Better than nothing, I guess. #birds (Overall conclusion of today is never put on auto-ISO, which a YT video had suggested.)

Crested tits, to me, only exist as sounds and barely visible moving pixels. These birds are too shy for their phenomenal looks. I mean, look at that thing. Easily a top 5 European songbird for me. (Admittedly my top 5 may have more than five, but that's not important)

It seems that a few marsh tits have decided to enjoy our garden again. Had not seen them here in ober a year. Seeing how the great and blue tits chase them away, I can see why that was. Hopefully I can get a picture before they will probably leave again.
