One reason âLolitaâ leaves us feeling disturbed is because it defies easy categorisation. Itâs a story about a predatory paedophile but there are no graphic sex scenes or even any overtly sexual language, leaving the reader to populate the space with whatever we ourselves bring to the mix.

I always read a book before watching a dramatisation of it. But which one to choose? After some online research have opted for the 1977 version of Anna Karenina with Nicola Pagett, Eric Porter and Stuart Wilson. Two episodes in, eight to go.

Well âLolitaâ was a wild ride but why does anyone think itâs an immoral book? Humbert is destroyed by his choices, what could be more moral than that?

Today is International Conscientious Objectors Day. A ceremony will be held in Tavistock Square in London 1.-2pm. Conscientious objection is not cowardice. Many of us who have had COs in our families will know that refusing to kill may exact a heavy price.

But what if the men wanting to run in the womenâs category are simply selfish pricks who like breaking rules, sticking two fingers up at society and embarrassing women, or just have a needy desire to see themselves as âwinnersâ. No gender dysphoria or anything. Still in favour?
