I did it!! I am now Dr. Poetry! From being homeless in Florida, to a borough in New Jersey, to dropping out of high school, to surviving domestic violence and being a single mom in academia. I did it. Thank you to all the people who supported me and believed in me. I love you! I am Dr. Smith!

Can I do another MFA to specialize in fiction? I'm tired of being a poet. There are too many line breaks to deal with. Every goddamn day.

I like how the elite class is stealing education from everyone else. Like. Are we gonna do anything about the MBA dudebros who now control most everything on planet earth? Hasn't anyone ever watched Shark Rank? We are utterly fucked.

We're now up to 103 writers, lit mags and publishers in my Hybrid Writing start pack who leap over genre boundaries & out of boxes, ignoring traditional labels & definitions. Would you like to be added or do you know someone else who fits into this unboxed box?!

OpenAI says it has proof that Deepseek used its work without permission to create something meant to undermine and destroy its product. On behalf of all the authors whose novels and stories were taken as training data, oh no that must be so hard for you.

How do people deal with the constant stress from the precarity of contract academic work? As a single mom, I feel so burnt out worrying about the future. I'm not gonna lie, the system has ground me down into a fine dust.

Does anyone know of a word processor that does not integrate AI? As a writer, I don't want that shit anywhere near my work. Who's the artisanal tech company resisting the data piracy grift known as "AI?" If there's none, how do I pivot from being a poet to a tech start up person?

It's becoming clear that A.I. is the devil. In a burning world, the energy & water it consumes are unconscionable. The intellectual property theft it depends on is wrong. It is dehumanizing. Its development is fueled by naked greed. It is a giant step backward for humanity & our planet.

I can't handle reading AI papers anymore. Does anyone else have to read hundreds of thousands of words of AI besides composition instructors? I feel like it's impacting me negatively. Someone needs to study the impact of reading AI slop in such sustained ways.

I often feel like everyone is better than me at stuff. Like teaching. Or writing. Where are the cracks? The fragments? The flattened defeat. Gnawing annoyance. Why's everyone always so competent? Is it a ruse? Reality? Am I the only one struggling?

Everyone says, don't get on the adjunct treadmill. But they don't tell you how to make it without getting on it. And they certainly don't tell you how to get off the damn thing once it's going.

My name is Cristalle Smith. I am a poet and I teach mostly composition and literature. I'm a contract labourer, single mother, writer, and survivor of DV and childhood homelessness. I believe in the power of the lyric to save no one and do absolutely nothing. Except make some beauty.
