Hate that some of the best Cronicle illustrations are hidden away in a rare artbook, so I'm stuck with someone's photos I stole or otherwise lower quality images. One was reused for a trading card, which I own, and the other was reprinted in a Newtype 100% book but it gets cut off in the spine.

I took these pictures earlier in the week, when I thought it was Saturday (it was actually Tuesday). No sense in wasting the pick. 1995’s Super Real Mahjong PV Custom, for the PC Engine Super CD-ROM² System (Arcade Card compatible).

There was an AnimeCon ‘91 convention report (by Neil Nadelman, I think?) that mentioned some folks showing off their Nadia fansub at a party where all the Gainax guys were in attendance.

Seconding this. It was pretty much *everywhere* in the fandom scene for a good part of the '90s. It was big enough that it was still getting magazine covers on smaller press going into '93-ish (?) with Animenominous and V-Max

the Streamline Pictures dub was 1992, pretty soon after the show aired in Japan, I think it being out there might have dampened the fansubber enthusiasm. That, and the Nadia movie being really awful

yup, that's what "anime" is, Secret Of Blue Water is the be-all and end-all of anime, let's use our amazing printing resources and budget to... reprint scripts we downloaded off Usenet. What a waste

When I owned my shop in the 90s Nadia was HUGELY popular. It was "the series" everyone had to see.

my recollection was that Nadia and Kimagure Orange Road were the only two shows that my local clubs had fansubbed in their entirety. i found that interesting. plenty of more shows got chalked off as the 90s progressed, of course.

it was popular all right. As you say, impossible to avoid. The Cal-Animage club published a 200+ page perfect-bound color cover book titled "Anime" that was mostly just scripts for Nadia TV episodes, because of course "anime" equals "Nadia", that was the attitude

If there had been no in fighting with Neo Zeon in ZZ, effectively Neo Zeon would have maintained complete victory. Not "attained" rather they would have "maintained" because Haman's Neo Zeon were victorious (even for a short amount of time.)

's new video, about how video games/consoles are featured in popular media. There's a part about the what-if "Arcadia" console featured in the rebuild films. This is somewhat referencing the fictional console seen in FLCL. watch it here:

Also the “condemned to play with his toys” take that I see so often fails to consider that he’s old now and has had a very successful career and is now getting to do exactly what he wants (which is very similar to his earliest work but on a scale he only could’ve imagined in his youth)
