Sea-Watch's civilian rescue ship #Aurora evacuated 41 people from the supply ship Maridive 208 yesterday. The shipwrecked people had previously been stranded on the Miskar gas platform in international waters, from where they were evacuated by the supply ship on August 28.

The civilian rescue ship Mediterranea, operated by the NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans, was detained by the Italian authorities on Monday. The organisation was also fined €10,000.

CN Armed violence On Sunday afternoon, the rescue ship Ocean Viking, operated by the NGO SOS Mediterranee, was deliberately and violently attacked in international waters by the so-called Libyan coast guard. Hundreds of shots were fired at the ship.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) prohibits Greece from deporting 8 refugees who arrived in Greece last month. Refugee Support Aegean (RSA) represents four of the eight refugees and reports on the case. All eight people have applied for asylum.

Exactly four years ago today, the Taliban Islamist terrorists took control of the whole of Afghanistan. Since then, the Afghan civilian population and especially women and queer people have been increasingly oppressed. The whole world is ignoring the terrible situation in Afghanistan.

On August 7, the reconnaissance aircraft Seabird 1, which is operated by Sea-Watch and Humanitarian Pilots Initiative, was detained by the Italian authorities.

CN Death At least 20 people have died in a shipwreck off Lampedusa. About a hundred people were on the 2 boats, only about 60 people have been rescued so far. Many more people are still missing. Our thoughts are with the deceased, their families and all those affected.

The NGO Leave No One Behind reported today that the Greek coastguard first intercepted a rubber dinghy with around 20 people off Samos yesterday morning and tried to push it back, and then shot at the boat until it changed course.

After rescuing six people in distress at sea yesterday evening, Sea-Watch 5, in cooperation with the civilian aircraft Colibri 2, found a boat in distress with 67 people on board this morning. After the 67 people were safely on board the ship, a woman who was nine months pregnant went into labour.

CN Suicide, lethal police violence On 8 August 2022, 16-year-old Mouhamed Lamine Dramé was killed by police in Dortmund with five bullets from a submachine gun. Mouhamed fled Senegal in 2019 and arrived in Dortmund on 1 August 2022 after a long journey.

The Seabird reconnaissance aircraft has been detained by Italian authorities. Further details are not yet known. After a court ruled on Monday that the detention of Sea-Watch's rescue ship Aurora was unlawful, aerial reconnaissance is now being blocked.

On Monday, Yacinta was brutally deported. Yacinta had been fighting for the right to stay for almost eight years, according to the Working Group for the Support of Asylum Seekers (Göttingen).

Yesterday, an Italian court lifted the detention order against the rescue ship #Aurora, operated by the NGO @en.sea-watch.org. The ship had been issued a 20 day detention after rescuing 70 people in distress at sea on 14 July. Sea-Watch took legal action against the detention order and won the case.

On 1 August, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) raised the hurdles for determining safe countries of origin for accelerated asylum procedures. In principle, the governments of EU member states can determine which country is categorised as a safe country of origin.

CN Death, shipwreck On Monday, Sea-Watch's Seabird 2 reconnaissance aircraft spotted a boat in distress with over 90 people on board. They alerted the authorities, whereupon Frontex showed up six hours later—and then disappeared again.

Today, another acquittal was handed down in Greece for a fleeing man who steered the boat in which he himself arrived in Greece. The case was accompanied and supported by the NGO @de-criminalize.bsky.social .

In August 2019, a Congolese mother travelled to Italy with her eight-year-old daughter and thirteen-year-old niece to apply for asylum. Upon arrival at Bologna airport, she was charged with ‘aiding and abetting illegal entry.’ She faced up to fifteen years in prison.

Since the beginning of the week, it has been public knowledge that the Islamist terrorist regime of the Taliban has sent 2 new consuls to Germany as representatives. Until now, only people who had been accredited before the Taliban took power in 2021 had worked in the Afghan representative offices.

A Yazidi family was violently torn from their familiar living situation in the middle of the night and deported to Iraq with 37 other people. The family had previously appealed against the rejection of their asylum application - and even won their case.
