Who has “lived experience of Autism”? Super easy answer. It’s Autistic people. Non-Autistic people have experience of being around us, of interpreting our actions through non-Autistic perceptions. They don’t have experience being us in the same way I don’t have experience being non-Autistic

Today is World Autism Day. There will be a lot of information about Autism floating about, and a lot of it will not be from #ActuallyAutistic people.

Today is International Trans Day of Visibility. As a genderqueer person I stand with my trans siblings on this important day. Trans people are 3-6 times more likely to identify as Autistic, so supporting the Autistic community means supporting the trans community.

Yesterday I had the genuine pleasure and the privilege to deliver training over 60 NHS Scotland GPs from across the north of Scotland. This is the third time in the last few years that I have provided GP training, but this time we had the biggest audience and the session ran for 3 hours.

I am ALL kinds of excited this week. On Thursday morning I will be delivering training to GPs across the north of Scotland to help them understand our needs as Autistic patients. I will be sharing with them common challenges and how they can adjust their practice to better support us.

I’ve seen many people use the word neurotypical (NT) to mean non Autistic. You can be non Autistic - also known as allistic - and still be neurodivergent. There are lots and lots of people out there who are ADHD, dyslexic, dyscalculic, OCD, and much more who are neither neurotypical or Autistic.

Oh my goodness yesterday was busy I was thrilled to attend the third Neurodiversity In Scottish Schools (NISS) symposium at Glasgow University. Huge well done to Jason Lang and Melea Press for all their hard work putting it together.

I am working in Glasgow again today (my home away from home!). The train conductor yesterday checked my ticket and saw I have a disabled persons railcard. He then checked in to see if I needed any support with anything. I reassured him I was ok and thanked him for asking.
