What I'm finding that's sort of working for me so far is to create a smooth base in the rough shape of the crystal I want. Then I'm using active conforming to that base while moving selected vertices to approximate the facets as desired.

Working on a quick Sage's Stone model. Trying to figure out the best way to do the facets to match the design. Thinking of boolean cutting planes as a start...

For all the so-called toxic gamer culture commentary: Whenever I enter into talks on social media about gaming it's 99% positive and fun. Whenever I comment on politics people just start yelling. I'm sure there are groups of angry gamers (some genres) out there that's not been my experience.

Dragon Quest 1&2 HD-2D remakes are getting a ton of stuff added (underwater areas, new areas, new lore), akin to 3, but the original content is remaining largely respected and intact. For me that's the best way to do a remake.

Hrmm... Cut content. More "accessible" to modern audiences. I mean I get it. It's a 200 hour game. However at the same time it was targeted at the hardcore Dragon Quest fans. One person's fluff is another person's world building, depending on how invested they are.

Running through the Arcane Labyrinth dungeon of Final Fantasy 2. It's a semi interesting concept that's very much marred by the fact that the game has been made so trivially easy that any bonus loot or XP the dungeon crawl rewards you doesn't really do anything to enhance the game.

Expected, but disappointed, that Trails in the Sky First Chapter remake didn't get launched on GoG. The rest of the series to date is there as well as placeholders for other upcoming releases. Really hope this remake makes it there too at some point in the near future.

Dragon Quest 4-6 remakes in the works?!?! Great news! Dragon Quest 6 is one of my favorites. I really enjoy the characters there but I love all 3 of the Zenithian Trilogy so it'll be great to revisit them all again in a new format. HD2D? DQ3 HD2D turned out great so I'd have no complaints.

Comparison between graphics/style of the 3 Dragon Quest 7 versions (PS1, 3DS, Reimagined): Personally the PS1's "early-3D" graphics didn't bother me that much. The UI is still classic DQ style and probably the biggest drawback of that version.

Dragon Quest Liquid Metal Shield model. Finally managed to pin this fella down!

I swear I spend more time just tweaking the shader than I do modeling. In fact I know I do. Just the little subtle, distance dependent features I want to highlight and get just so takes a lot of fiddling.

And yes I am making a liquid metal shield model! It's proving difficult because for some reason the model keeps running away...

Blue spokes are such an example here. I can edit them while axis aligned. Use XForm to place the initial one where I want. Symmetry to mirror it. Array/Symmetry to make the radial copies.

Up until recently I've had little use for the "XForm" modifier in 3DS Max. It basically provides a modifier stack level transform. Now since the array and symmetry stack modifiers have been improved I use it all the time to allow axis aligned modelling but controlled placement.

I had a lot of fun with these puzzles as a kid. I remember the whole family pondering some of the trickier ones. If you can get past the low fidelity 3D graphics (which honestly you should) Betrayal at Krondor is a great game worth playing today. Lots of exploration, puzzles, and a good story!

Another common sight are chests with "wordlocks". Basically they give you a riddle and you have to solve it by arranging the tumblers to spell out the answer. They're all written in Moredhel though, so you'll either need Gorath with you or a Translation spell to decode them.

Betrayal at Krondor. Released in 1993 by Sierra and developed by Dynamix, it's an ambitious and well-regarded title both in its time and today. Based on the Riftwar fantasy novels by Raymond Feist, it does its best to emulate their writing style.

Dragon Quest Ultimate Key 3D Model: This one took longer than expected. There's a coating on the model that results in it not behaving as a standard metal so my shader attempts were thwarted. I had to use a custom falloff map to get it close.
