It was a nice evening for a visit to Downtown! We took MARTA to Garnett Station and had a great dinner at El Tesoro, spotted friends on the sidewalk and chatted, then checked out the World Cup watching event at Underground Atlanta, then bought some groceries at Azalea Market & took MARTA back home.

I saw a constant stream of cyclists and scooter riders using the new West Peachtree Street bike lane today! Very nice. What's your experience, cyclists? Is a quality network of great bike lanes emerging in Midtown?

I took MARTA to South Downtown to check out the scene tonight. Look at all the bikes!! There are bikes parked all over, and pedestrians on the streets, and crowded restaurants. Very cool.

I wonder how many folks are on the path this evening from the "don't ruin the Beltline with rail" crowd, patronizing businesses.

Check out the train arrivals for Civic Center Station (a half hour before ATL's first World Cup game). Trains are arriving every 2-4 minutes! It's a good reminder: if MARTA had more funding for operations, they could boost arrival times regularly. Also: the new MARTA app is nice!

Cyclists "may use full lane" on Ponce but they have to share it with drivers who do this damage. GDOT (this is a state route) says "traffic volume" prohibits protected bike lanes from being built here. So y'all please stop driving on Ponce so GDOT can't use that excuse anymore.

Is Atlanta ready for the World Cup? Is Atlanta ready to build a new hospital? No. To expand transit? No. To end zoning segregation? No. To pave sidewalks? No. To fix broken water pipes? No. To sustain new businesses in South Downtown? God, I hope so. But the World Cup? Sure, those are just 8 normal event days in the stadium district.

I've been to many public meetings where the organizer assumes everyone drove there -- telling jokes about traffic & parking, giving out parking vouchers -- with zero recognition that some of us didn't drive. And that windshield perspective influences everything.

Atlanta was supposed to do this but Mayor Andre Dickens rejected millions in earmarked regional funding and the pleas of local businesses and residents to dismantle Shared Peachtree, directly leading to two pedestrian deaths. It was rumored he did this to appease a single Republican oligarch.

I'm thankful for the nice new sidewalk on Ralph Mcgill Blvd, underneath the Eastside Beltline! It used to be a muddy mess. Great pedestrian paths are for streets too, not just the Beltline!

MARTA is the largest transit system in the U.S. to receive no dedicated operations funding (for salaries & more) from its state. Without more operations money, MARTA can't truly expand service. It can only shift resources around. When will leaders finally address this?

A lovely bike lane spotted today on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow, plus the exact same view from before the lane was built. Cycling is really popular here! You can't stand on a block in the center of the city for long before bikes go past. Protected lanes = butts in bike seats.

Hello from Glasgow! I love these bus stops with digital signs that show the upcoming arrival times. There's a huge culture of bus riding here, and these double-deckers are packed on a Monday.
