Arvo Pärt turns 90 today. May he live forever. I still remember going into Borders (that’s how long ago it was) and thinking I would try buying a CD by a new composer. And he happened to be the one. I turned on that CD, and there’s my life before hearing Pärt for the first time and my life after.

I will say, after twenty-four years and counting of praying the Psalms, they are, as advertised, really beginning to sink into my bones. I was at the Yale ISM in the Margot Fassler era when she would babble about the Psalms at every opportunity and in my 20s I would roll my eyes and be like

The office is obvs is not exclusive to Anglicans nor their special charism but the accessibility of the office for laity—how simple it is for every Christian to ground themself in the daily flow of the church's prayer, is by far the most astounding thing unique to this tradition

I discovered the Office as a teenager and have never completely given it up. When I wasn't practicing as a Christian, I missed it and kept trying to come up with equivalents. ⚓

We just keep saying: the Daily Office of Morning and Evening Prayer keeps changing lives and bringing people into the presence of the living God. The BCP is like having a fully functioning cathedral in your hand. ⚓️

Protestantism *is* Catholicism. ⚓️

Why can't we bring the Daily Office book back from the dead??? 😭😭 Or better: make a new and improved office book that includes the collects for the full calendar of saints celebrated by the Episcopal Church?? Someone help this make sense... 📕
