These temperatures are wildly unprecedented for June in the UK but the Met Office study, Kay et al (2025), looked at simulations of a stationary 2023 climate and found even 40C+ June days are very possible in the current climate (see figure 3f). rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Looks like the UK heatwave will be killed by thunderstorms. Emerging research, from our group and others, suggests the threshold for triggering convection (i.e., thunderstorms) may increase in a warming climate, potentially enabling very hot days to warm more rapidly.

It was great to attend my first EGU in Vienna last week! I presented my current research looking into the asymmetric response of land temperatures to increasing vs decreasing CO2 concentrations. Recent results have pointed to a connection with the land hydroclimate, which I’m further investigating 🔎
