Left the house this morning with middle child screaming that he wanted mummy to take him to school and didn’t want to go to after school club. He struggles with transitions. Being a working mum really sucks some days.

Sunday Scaries are much improved by the presence of a teacher prep day Monday and CPD day Tuesday. For once they align with my part time working days so I only have my short day Wednesday to teach this week.

Feeling reflective at the end of my first term teaching #AlevelMaths, first question - do your students take good notes in class? Do you have any specific strategies in place to encourage this? Do you think it is necessary for them to have a good set of notes?

Relieved to make it to the end of term. I learnt that I love teaching A level maths but dislike trying to teach core maths to grade 4/5 students. This also means I made it through my first year after maternity leave without quitting. Happy Christmas holidays all! 🎅🎄😊🥳

In #mathstoday I taught transformations to my higher gcse resitters-I always use mathspad for rotations and MWB for the others. What method do you use to find centre of rotation? I’ve always done trial and error but they give up easily yet I’m not sure they would remember perpendicular bisectors.

When ‘low’ level disruption is explained to non-teachers, it is often dismissed as: kids talk too much haha. The reality is that it is common for a teacher to be interrupted several times, deliberately, by multiple students to the point that a simple explanation is impossible.

When I have set a class questions to complete independently, I spend around 10%-20% of the time at the start standing at the front of the classroom. Seemingly doing nothing. I mentioned this to a colleague who asked "but shouldn't you be circulating?" No. 🧵

In #mathstoday in #coremaths we looked at how 24 rabbits in Australia became billions 🐇 we then applied population growth models to a wide variety of contexts.

In #mathstoday my #alevelmaths group explored transformations of graphs on desmos. They did such a good job working out what was happening with each transformation so I didn’t have to teach them much at all.
