This report must not be left to gather dust. Its recommendations should be the floor, not the ceiling, of the Government’s ambitions. The Government must use this report as a catalyst for change. Only by acting now can we save lives when the next crisis hits. 10/10

It shouldn’t take the deaths of our loved ones or of young people at university to put public health back on the political agenda. That’s why what happens now is so important. 9/10

But this is not only about past failure. Our health service is in a worse position to cope with another pandemic than it was 6 years ago. The current meningitis outbreak underscores the urgency of restoring resilience and capacity in our Health System. 8/10

For many of our members, this is about how our loved ones died, often alone, without proper care, in a system pushed beyond its limits. And it is about healthcare workers who were left traumatised by government incompetence. 7/10

Boris Johnson’s refusal to fund an extra 10,000 hospital beds as the second wave approached is just one example of the callous incompetence that characterised the government's response to the crisis. 6/10

And when the pandemic hit, those in power failed us again. They failed to act early enough, failed to follow the evidence, and failed to respond with the urgency the moment demanded. 5/10

Years of austerity left the NHS dangerously exposed, without the staff, beds or resilience needed to withstand a major shock. That was a political choice. 4/10

Our loved ones, many of whom were healthcare workers themselves, paid with their lives. But that outcome was not inevitable. 3/10

The impact of the pandemic on our healthcare systems, their staff and patients was devastating. Our Healthcare system teetered on the brink of total collapse. Care was rationed. People who needed treatment did not always get it. 2/10

CATA has found via FoI requests that government bodies did not fully disclose vital evidence to COVID Inquiry. They ignored views of PHE that airborne precautions should have been available to all HCWs. WHY?

The large majority of COVID deaths are attributable to specific clear instances of negligence on the part of medical leaders, made directly against the advice of the world's top scientific experts, and on the basis of an understanding of science that was out of date by nearly a century.

For anyone who can't figure out why so many infection control docs are still desperately trying to manufacture a narrative that COVID isn't airborne, N95s don't work, and nothing could have been done differently in 2020... ...imagine having to face the guilt for this in the mirror every day.

CATA (Covid Airborne Transmission Alliance) has today issued this press release ahead of next Thursday's publication of the Inquiry's module 3 report: tinyurl.com/CATA-press-r...

The report must also address failures of those in power to act on warnings during the pandemic, including evidence about airborne transmission and the protection healthcare workers needed. 8/10

The Inquiry must also confront failures in NHS 111. Unsafe triage and poor clinical oversight meant some seriously ill people were not directed to the urgent care they needed. 7/10

The report must recognise the deeply distressing experiences of families whose loved ones were placed under DNACPR orders without proper consultation. Clear safeguards are needed so decisions about life and death are never handled this way again. 6/10

The report must also be clear about where failures in the healthcare response cost lives. That includes decisions and systems that directly affected patients and families. 5/10

Evidence in Module 3 showed parts of the healthcare system were overwhelmed at multiple points during the pandemic. Yet figures like Boris Johnson and Matt Hancock continue to claim that the NHS response was a success. The report must confront that false narrative. 4/10

The NHS entered the pandemic in poor health. Years of underinvestment left it short of staff, beds and critical infrastructure. Emergency planning cannot work when systems are already stretched in normal times. 3/10

The Inquiry cannot legislate for funding. But it must not avoid the question. The resilience of our healthcare system was fatally undermined by austerity. The report must say that clearly. 2/10

Finally, the report must make clear this simple truth: The cost of restoring capacity and funding now would be dwarfed by the cost of failing to act before the next crisis hits. 10/10

The NHS is not ready for the next major shock. Experts say it is in a worse position than it was in March 2020. This report must be a catalyst for urgent investment and reform to save lives when the next crisis hits. 9/10
