We welcome the news that Chris Wormald has resigned. When he was appointed Cabinet Secretary, we warned ministers that many would see it as his failures during the pandemic being brushed aside, or even rewarded. Those concerns were ignored. 1/3

Bereaved families watched him give evidence to the Inquiry and heard repeated denials and a refusal to accept responsibility for what went wrong. It is unacceptable that, rather than being dismissed long ago for his critical failures during the pandemic, he was promoted. 3/3

The Covid Inquiry’s Module 2 report criticised him by name and found there was no evidence he acted to correct misleading assurances within government about its ability to cope, obscuring the reality and the need for more urgent action. 2/3

The Hillsborough Law is currently making its way through Parliament. But there are those in Parliament who would like to see it watered down. All of us who care about justice, and about making public inquiries work for everyone, must make sure that does not happen. 4/4

It would also ensure that victims of disasters and state-related deaths are entitled to equal legal representation at inquests and inquiries. That would ensure equal access to justice for all, making inquiries more efficient and fair. 3/4

Today's report makes for devastating reading for all those who lost loved ones to Covid. The actions of Boris Johnson and his colleagues led to thousands upon thousands of avoidable deaths. Those who presided over that failure have no place in public life.

Now that the Inquiry has spoken, there must be accountability. While our focus will always be on learning lessons to save lives in the future, individual accountability must be part of delivering justice. 4/4

We are calling for every privilege to be removed, including the £115k-a-year he can claim as a former PM. It is intolerable that bereaved families are expected to subsidise the lifestyle of the man whose decisions led to the deaths of our loved ones. 3/4

Boris Johnson’s silence is deafening, and his contempt for the bereaved is clear. His actions during the pandemic amount to one of the gravest betrayals of the British public in history. His decisions cost tens of thousands of lives that could and should have been saved. 1/4
