Sometimes the Canadian 1 km resolution HRDPS model is uncannily accurate. Here's a 26 hr ahead forecast for 7 PM PDT. It's a very good match with 7 PM obs of intensity/location. It's just difficult to know in advance when this kind of accuracy is going to work out as well as it has this evening.
