The NOAA model run includes the two Earth-directed #solarstorm launches. The larger one catches up with the smaller one just ahead of Earth so a precursor disturbance may indeed ramp up before the larger storm hits. Impact is expected by late September 1. G2+ conditions are possible.

A close look at the coronal blast wave during the #solarstorm launch shows mild dimming along the edges of a large perimeter (highlighted region). This may indicate a large area of coronal magnetic field may have been ejected, contributing to the impressive halo signature seen in coronagraphs.

Region 4114 fired an X1.27-flare today causing a R3-level #RadioBlackout (watch the lines disappear in the colored regions of the map). No #solarstorm launch, but the region is crossing through the Earth strike zone now. A new X-flare player also rotates into view now, so expect more big flares!

During the #solarstorm launch, a strong blast wave occurs, but it propagates mainly northward. So the main structure was launched towards the northern pole of the Sun. However, Region 4114 is crossing the Earth-strike zone now, so we could see an Earth-directed storm launch yet!

Despite the #solarstorm magnetic field remaining northward for most of the day, it has finally turned south. This means #aurora is building slowly again. Shows are still very diffuse and "misty," which will continue for a while yet, but we could start seeing some nice structure during substorms!
