The Dark Souls 2 rehabilitation tour is a mass hallucination. It's still by far the worst Dark Souls game and was released completely unfinished both from an artistic and conceptual perspective. There are so many bad ideas that don't work you will interact with them every time you play it.

I like horror games not because I like to be scared but because I enjoy exploring human psychology. Yes you can do that in other genres but usually it's most prominent in horror. Good writing = reasonable motivations = interesting characters = enjoyable game. (imo)
