While in NYC, I checked out the new faregates at Broadway/Lafayette. First things first, they look really cool! Definitely feels futuristic, especially in a 90 year old station. But do they work? In short, seemingly yes! (mostly) 1/

I’m not sure a Christmas Market can get more transit oriented than having a subway exit in the middle of it

When I say things like Good Transit is Freedom, I mean that instead of sitting in traffic on the way to the airport I get to hang on the train and read instead. I am free from sitting in car, and free to read (I did also spend the first 10 minutes scrolling)

Our furnace broke last January, most quotes dramatically oversized our furnace, making a heat pump look impossible We wound up getting an 80k btu 2-stage furnace, and even the 1st stage only runs ~60% of the time at 0 F, so still way overkill Chicagoland can definitely be way more electric

One thing I don’t see too many folks talk about is that if it’s cheaper to have your self driving car circle the block than it is to park, then you might as well let your car keep driving while you’re at dinner or a show, or maybe even for a whole day at work! Would be absolute chaos

It’s old news now, but this is my first time riding in the new Siemens Venture cars on the Wolverine, let’s see how it goes!

The compasses outside L stops are so clutch when your bus transfer is one minute away and you need to know which stop to stand at

There’s something very goofy about making sure the L is in the background to take thirst traps of your car (as seen from the Brown Line)

In NYC, recess sometimes looks like preschoolers excitedly waiting for the Franklin Avenue Shuttle to pass underneath them.

Starting October 15, six CTA buses will operate with Automated Bus Lane Enforcement systems as part of the City of Chicago’s Smart Streets pilot.

Very easy to forget it’s #AWeekWithoutDriving when you bike or take CTA every day anyway, but here I am on the train!

The thing about Chicago is you can just be walking around and next thing you know this is the view

Up early for work, and while it wouldn’t be surprising to anybody who works third shift normally, even at 4 AM there are lots of folks up early to get to work! Flight attendants, security guards, healthcare workers, transit employers… all relying on CTA to get where they need to go (including me!)

So sad that all these H Street businesses in DC are about to go out of business since there's no where to park!

The assumption here is access to a car though. As someone who almost never drives I actually found that I spent way more time outside in NYC than I did in DC because access to outdoors was so good Central Park (and many others), Hudson Greenway, MNR Appalachian Trail stop, subway to the Rockaways…
