I always sit in on the NP’s (who has been with the VA since before I was born) lectures with the trainees, and she starts with: 1. What do you think the experience for a WW2 vet was like coming home? 2. How about a Korean War vet (don’t just say MASH)? 3. A Vietnam vet? 4. An Iraq/Afghanistan vet?

Obviously I have to include the picture of my maternal grandfather flipping off the nazis in Germany after he landed on DDay.

20th college reunion.

Despite excellent training and a love of the field, I have decided, accepted, and owned that I will never return to emergency medicine and that I am just a palliative doc.
