The Department of Energy hired five academics to raise doubts about climate change. 85+ climate experts (organized by @andrewdessler.com) reviewed their report. Our conclusion, detailed in 450 pages of analysis: it is biased, full of errors, and not fit to inform policy making.

So this Admin has abandoned investments aimed at reducing risks and *preventing* damage, and stated a desire for agencies to better support disaster survivors. Is this remotely consistent with that? Nope. Everyone’s on their own.

I was glad to be a technical advisor on this. POTUS’ revocation (twice - in ‘17 and ‘25) of the Fed. Flood Risk Mgmt Standard weakened the flood resilience requirements for Federally funded projects, incl post-disaster public infrastructure. Wastes your tax dollars & guarantees future suffering.

“Reducing administrative burdens”…while exacerbating suffering and loss. This Admin wants to decrease federal spending on disasters, not by reducing losses like thru the FFRMS, but by just refusing to pay for it. Others will still pay — increasing their financial, physical, and emotional burdens.

Grateful for the investments in instrumentation and scientific expertise at USGS, NOAA tsunami program, and other domestic and international partners who react to these events and provide reliable info to the public. This is not fraud, waste, or abuse of taxpayer funds.

Empathy is an important quality — for all of us, and especially in our elected officials. It’s not partisan. My daughter is part of the DC skating community that’s reeling from this incident. We can expect no comfort or competence from our current WH.

I think I’ve hit my limit in my ability to compartmentalize all of the stuff coming at us here in DC. I was barely hanging on as I watch the assault on our federal govt and career civil servants. My daughter is part of the DC figure skating community, and that flight is exactly like those we take.

The Federal Flood Risk Mgmt Standard (FFRMS) is gone. Yet in the same order: “The National Security Advisor shall immediately begin a complete and thorough review of all National Security Memoranda…for harm to national security, domestic resilience, and American values.”

Just had a sample of the Eaton Fire ash that is in my driveway run on the department XRF. Is there titanium (new house paint)? Yup. Lead (old house paint)? You betcha. Heavy metals? Check. Treat that ash like it's toxic folks (because it is)

As with all transitions, some great people leave Fed service -- mainly those in appointed or temp roles. But there are so many career folks who will still serve, still deliver on mission. If you know any, reach out. Check in. Let them know their work remains important. Show your support.

Wow. Little kiddo me embraced “Another Brick in the Wall” (we don’t need no education!) when this came out. But it wasn’t until I was a teenager that “Comfortably Numb” and all the allusions to an absentee father (in the film, especially) hit really hard. Still does.

This is exactly what I cannot understand. These people now embracing the song show through word and deed that they despise those who created it and all like them. I literally cannot watch that man and his acolytes dance to it.

I’m not a nuclear expert at all — I do hazards resilience. But is this why I’m proud to work for a company (AtkinsRéalis, HQ in Montreal) whose nuclear plants (CANDU) use unenriched uranium… avoid these bad actors. And the reactors produce Cobalt-60, which is used in cancer detection and treatment.

Of the many things I’m grateful for on Bluesky, I love that my feeds are 100% content from real people. No ads I have to hide and say, nope, not paying for premium. Definitely would pay $$ to keep it this way!
