For several days, my main tools have been a measuring tape and a screwdriver rather than a computer and keyboard. Setting up our new office and lab spaces is slow but oddly satisfying and a good reminder that teaching and research depend on very concrete infrastructures.

Why aren't more researchers publishing in society journals? Two potential reasons: 1) They're often unfamiliar to early-career researchers, and 2) they need better promotion, a task for all of us.
