Side-by-side tandems are a great example of the enabling power of cycling. For people who no longer can cycle independently, these bikes are a real game changer which enables them to participate more fully in daily life and benefits their physical and mental health!

We're excited by Phase1 Newtown #Exeter. For disabled cyclists using a recumbent cycle, the previous arrangement crossing between parked cars & limited visibilty was unsafe for #disabledcycling. We imagine it would've been so for children too. Hurray for these small changes. #activetravel

Hello Exeter 1/ Do you live with a #disability & travel in Newtown by cycle, mobility scooter or wheelchair? We're looking for volunteers to attend a snagging meeting for phase1 Exeter community infrastructure project while there's still the opportunity to make refinements to the installed works.

I am disabled and have never been allowed to drive, which is the norm here in Canada. You generally have to fight pretty hard to convince them to let you have a liscense. So when I see people opposing bike lanes and multi-use paths, which I rely in, using me as their example, I am filled with rage.

My guess? The council placed this in response to residents' complaints about antisocial motorbike use. But pedal cycles & legal pedal assisted e-bikes increasingly come in many forms (not just narrow bicycles),.. ..frequently ridden by disabled people. So this may be a breach of the Equality Act.

The new access from "Ikea bridge pathway" to big Tescos Exeter is great - unless your 🧑‍🦽🚲🚼means are unable to squeeze past parked cars. Trolleys also in way. We've written to Tescos inviting them to reconsider disabled access from this entrance. We'll keep you updated. 1/

In the Netherlands, where the Dutch invest in safe cycling, the over-65s cycle around a quarter of their journeys, while the over-80s cycle around 10% of theirs. Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and cycle lanes don't 'restrict freedom', they expand it.
