I’m not so surprised. Film really has great aesthetic qualities. Right now, I personally have very limited interest in digital photography. Granted, that might change over time, but for the time being, I shoot everything that feels important to me on film.

I warmly recommend a visit to Rome's brand new Centre for Photography, installed in one of the beautifully renovated pavilions of the 'Mattatoio', the city's former industrial slaughterhouse. Three super interesting and inspiring exhibitions on there at the moment. (These are digital images)

Update from my Roman holiday: my Minolta α-Sweet II (a.k.a. Dynax/Maxxum 5) died on me this morning while taking photos of a jazz band performing on Ponte Sisto. If the diaphragm servo is like that of the α-7, then I fear it's the plastic gear that's broken. I have that dreaded whirring sound 🙁

Kit for the next 12 days in Italy: the absolutely diminutive, almost featherweight, plastic Minolta Alpha Sweet II + 20, 28, 50 and 100mm lenses. (Confession: there’s also a digital camera that can use the same lenses in the bag).

Just ordered 10 rolls of Vision 250D from Silbersalz in Berlin, Germany. I think it is still the one with remjet. My lab has assured me that they are able to handle both the old and the new version.

Dangerous conditions indeed, but a very nice photo!

For the Easter holiday in Rome, I think Minolta α-9 is going to be replaced by the smaller and far lighter α-7. The more important question is whether I dare to take film through airport security or I bring an empty camera and buy film locally, in which case I should also get it developed there...

About the size of a Fjällräven Kånken, this backpack can hold two Minolta α-9 & three lenses in the main compartment, film, batteries & an extra lens in the top compartment, a 14'' laptop in the rear pocket, has camera access on one side and a water bottle on the other. Pretty impressive, I think.

Just got this in the mail. I am also expecting a (third party) split-image / microprism collar focusing screen for the Minolta α-9 to arrive shortly. This is a manual focus lens with no contacts to communicate distance or aperture information to the camera. I *hope* I'll be able to swap the screen!
